Center for New Hope and Life

The Center for New Hope and Life opened in April 2001 and is located on the campus of Mayview State Hospital. The hospital has a little over 300 patients. All patients who have ground privileges are welcome at the Center. Because of security issues the drop-in center serves only residents of the hospital.

The Center for New Hope and Life offers peer support. Currently all activities are contained on site at the hospital. The center offers arts and crafts, computers, card games, nail polishing, board games, bingo, a walking program, a small reference library as well as current periodicals. The staff also will facilitate the transition out of the hospital for a person who is leaving to live in the community. The center has bus schedules and information on nearby stores, etc. The staff participates in the Wellness Committee with hospital staff. The walking program is one of the products of this committee's work. Staff take consumers on walks four days a week up to two miles per session.

The Center at Mayview has dynamic membership. The Center serves an average of 25 to 30 members on a monthly basis. The Center for new Hope and Life operates Monday through Friday from 2:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturday hours are 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
